How it works

It's not a quiz. It's a game.

You play against a real opponent on a real scoreboard. The questions are the plays — and how hard the question is decides how big the play is.

Pick your sport and level

Choose a difficulty — Rookie, Veteran or All-Star — and the rule set you actually play under. A 10-year-old in Little League and a high school shortstop get different questions, because they play under different rules.

Right answers score

An easy question is a single. A hard one is a home run. In basketball it's a free throw or a three; in rugby it's a penalty kick or a converted try. Miss, and it's an out, a stop or a turnover on downs.

Every miss teaches

Wrong answers don't just cost you — they show you the correct answer with a coach's explanation of why. That's the whole point. You lose the run and you learn the play.

Before you ask

What age is this for?

Roughly 7 and up, and the level you pick matters more than the age. Coach pitch, tee ball, flag football and the 10-and-under tennis pathway are written for young beginners. The high school levels are genuinely hard — plenty of adults miss the cutoff and coverage questions.

Do you collect any personal information?

No. There are no accounts and no sign-in. The display name, optional team name and game progress are stored on your own device and never sent anywhere.

We don't ask for an age, an email or a location. Notifications about app updates are opt-in and use an anonymous device token. Full detail is in the privacy policy.

Whose rules do the questions follow?

The governing conventions for each sport: USA Softball and NFHS for softball, Little League and NFHS for baseball, NFHS for basketball and football, US Youth Soccer and NFHS for soccer, USA Hockey for ice hockey, FIH and NFHS for field hockey, World Rugby for rugby, and ITF and USTA formats for tennis.

Local leagues modify rules constantly — run limits, home run caps, mercy rules, contact ages. Every Chalk Talk screen says so, and the app tells you to check the book you actually play under.

Can one subscription cover the whole family?

Yes. App Store Family Sharing and Google Play family library both apply to the subscriptions, so a household shares one purchase per sport.

Why is each sport separate instead of one price for everything?

Most families play one or two sports, and charging them for fourteen would be silly. So the entry price is one sport for a dollar a month — less than a bag of sunflower seeds at the concession stand. The moment you'd be picking a third sport, the all-sport plan costs about the same as those three and covers the other eleven, so there's no reason to pay for sports one at a time past that point.
